cozy feet

Remember the socks that your Aunt Minetta made you when you were a child? No, well, my hubby does in fact he still has them. So, along that line of cozy warm sock memories I thought that I would knit some up as well for the family. Since the yarn is bulk weight they knit quickly which is very good considering I have to make about 6 pairs before Christmas.

new pad

My mouse has never been happier. I just got this new mouse pad from www.myfavoritemirror.com . They feature independent artist. They also make mirrors and coasters and you can even customize your own. This particular design was by Helena of www.helenagarcia.com. I think that it's so, so cute.

theo jansen

Hubby kindly forward me this Youtube clip of this fantastic kinetic artist name Theo Jansen. I'm sure that many have blogged about this man. I thought that I'd do the same. He is truly amazing. How is mind works is just beyond incredible. Just watch and see for yourself. I've just became a big fan.

needles for my habit

You can never have enough needles. Thank you sweet friends, Melissa and Tisha for thinking about me and supporting my habit. I shall try to put these in to good use very soon.

artist of the week

This beautiful owl was painted and made into a card by my talented 10 year old neighbor. Thought that you might appreciate as well.

findz

One thing about our Town that's so wonderful is that you can't throw a rock without hitting an artist in the eye. Although you may want to refrain from doing that, artist value their eyesight a bit, something having to do with making a living. I found this beautiful piece on the sidewalk in our neighborhood. I think the bird crap kinda adds to it don't you?

directionless

I finally finished the map socks. Poor things. They just didn't turn out right, they've lost their direction and are now completely lost. I really don't think that I need to say more. It's so obvious from the picture. I can't believe that these were made by the same yarn. And yes, they are quite big on my feet, that's because they are actually for hubby but it seems he can't get them on past the ankle. A bit too tight you see. Poor, poor socks.

learning to knit

Today, out of the many things that needed to be done was to go to the knitting store near our home called, The Swift Stitch. Very hip and cute place and it's located next to a wonderful bakery, what more could you ask for, knitting and bake goods. Mr. D. was dragged along and it turns out he was inspired to learn how to knit. He eyed some barbies and ken dolls along the window sill of the shop that the employees had knitted clothing for and was very excited on the thought that he could learn and eventually make clothing for his GI Joe "action figures". I was more then oblige to help. "So, let me get this straight, you want to learn how to knit?" (smile) Warms the cockles of my heart, really it does. To fuel the fire a bit more, I showed him, Brooklyn Tweed blog, that young man can really knit. Should I tell him how addictive it is, that you will eventually spend every free moment no matter where or absurd a place to knit it is, that you will knit because you can't help yourself from hearing those two needles clink and just one more row will not be enough? Nah. Hmmm, does this mean that I have to share my stash?

what influences come

I think that we as humans are instinctively bound to be influenced by our surroundings. And I've yield to the stronger force in our house hold and submit myself to admit that my children are my life and what they fancy, more so often dictates what I paint. The above work which is a large painting done in acrylic, has been brought to you by moi and Mr D. I think it's safe to say that this one will go nicely in his room.

the garden is done

The flowers are now in bloom and the bees and butterflies are now dancing their way around the garden. The snails and ladybugs can now feed on the leaves and Miss O is now able to water the ever so thirsty plants. To think it only took 3 full days with the help of my ever so willing assistant, Shari, 6 hours commuting and getting lost every time.

map sock

My new sock venture. It's for hubby. Same brand yarn "encore". So, I have all these socks started but I have yet to finish a pair. Soon, I'm hoping.

flowers

I made these flower trilogy paintings, about 3 years ago for one of my sis. Apparently they were denied, not quite what she envisioned, recently received them back and I don't know what to do with them. I kinda like them but I really don't have room to put them up. They're a bit big. I was thinking of just painting over them or giving them away. So,give me your two cents.

finn

Sometimes end results surprise me. Not quite abstract the way I wanted it to be. But all in all, the people who needed to be pleased are and my job is done! I will try my darnedest to put the brush down and step away from the art work. Hmmm, you see, my mind thinks there's more to do, more to be added and change. I'm just sick that way.

the other knitter

My feet are always cold and like food stuck between my teeth, having frozen toes just drives me batty to no end. Thank goodness for Shari. The other (more well versed) knitter in my life. She lovingly supplies me with beautiful and warm socks. So far, I believe, she has made me over 6 pairs within the year. I literally wear the socks out to the point where there are huge holes on the toes and heel areas. One time, she even repaired one sock by cutting it where the hole was and re-knitted it. What a true friend. These above are her latest creations. Shari belong to Socks that Rock Club and I have been fortunate to be the recipient of her great work. These ones are pretty cool because they're reversible.

starting

Finally able to begin work on a commissioned piece for my sister. They've just renovated their house and was honored to be chosen to do a painting for their main room. It's actually a big piece which I'm thrilled to do because I just enjoy doing big pieces, there's just so much more freedom, it seems. It measures 36x48. I've laid out the background, made it a lot more blue then the muddy like water the fish are really in. Going to make it a bit more abstract, hopefully it'll interpret well. I'll keep you posted.

forever in blue jeans

Another toe up, I'm loving toe ups. Trying to come up with a name for these and all I could think of is Neil Diamond, for his song, Forever in Blue Jeans. My Mom is a big fan and thus I became one too. I know, old and geeky. Anyways, used a worsted weight yarn. Now, for all you yarn snobs, this would be a good time to cover your ears. Are they covered? Good. I used "encore" yarn, only 25% wool and the rest acrylic, sinful I know, but they're just going to be house socks, so, I figured it would be all right. Right? I tried them on and they actually feel quite good.

findz

One of my thrift find is this great decorating book, published in the 70's in England. Now, if you can just get past the cover, I assure you this book is great. Got it for 50 cents and well worth it. What's true for fashion also seems true for home decor. It seems to all recycle itself after about 30 years. In some aspects, some of these rooms seem to be timeless. Look at this wonderful work space. I can see myself working in it, but then again, I'd take any work space. I'm easy.
Multiple living room scenes. I especially like that pillow like sectional (bottom right). The lady seems to be having fun walking on it while the guy seems a bit annoyed.
More multiple views of the home.
I want that big wooden hand to the left. Well, that's it. Hope you enjoyed the tour of my book. Oh, there was one more picture I really wanted to show you guys but it was a bit tad racy. Let's just say, it was like S&M meets James Bond. Those crazy Brits.

gimp knit

Last Saturday night I had the misfortune of falling down our stair well. Really smart of me to try and jump the safety gate, my pant leg got caught on it and the rest is just nauseating history. You know those cartoons where the character gets hurt, oh, I don't know, like from falling down the stairs and they show them with stars around their heads. That was me, I literally saw stars. Besides giving birth, it was one of the most painful and frightening experienced. Anyways, hurt my leg bad enough that I remained on the sofa for most of Sunday. Which leads to the socks. With so much couch potato time, I finished. Mr D was kind enough to model them for me.

a traveling we go

Saturday sent me traveling to the City with my BFF (Shari) to paint the mural for my niece's room. It always reminds me of how much I'm a country bumpkin when I go to SF. Driving their always makes me nervous. I'm like a little old lady behind the wheel. No offense to old ladies. But what a beautiful day it was for a journey.

This is the beginning sketch work of the wall.

This is the back of my head, finally putting in some colors on the wall. Wow, my hair is really black. I haven't gotten high lights since, goodness knows when.

Here's Miss Olivia in front of her new home.

one down

Finally finished one of the chocolate socks. I think that I bind off too tightly. Finding it a bit hard to put the sock on. Guess I'm gonna have to remedy that. One more to go.

flower power

My little niece has requested flowers for her room, so this weekend I shall be painting this. The above is the example on canvas, my preliminary work before laying it out on the wall. I'm quite nervous about doing this one because it's so personal. I'll let you know how it turns out.

chocolate

Alright, who doesn't love chocolate? Hmmm, anybody? Meet sock number 2 that I'm working on. I dubbed them chocolate, straight forward enough. Toe up again. Cascade superwash yarn. Tried them on, their actually very comfy. I'm excited to finish these ones.

back on the ball

A friend was kind enough to teach me how to do a sock from the toe up. I think I prefer this method better then starting from the leg. To be continued....

happy mother's day

"From seeds you watered us
As we sprouted you helped us grow
with the warmth of your radiant love
Along the way you trimmed us
to keep us safe from harm
When we grew out of our little pods
you replanted us
where you gave us hope and
showed us faith that we
may be able to do for others
as you did for us"
-Poem by T. Little
I received a few more Mothers day cards that are so beautiful and thoughtful, I wish that I could share them all with you. This one is from my sweet Cousin Jean, along with the poem.
Happiest Mother's Day to all of you Mamas!

vogue mama

In high school I used to aspire to be a fashion designer and did a lot of fashion sketches. This one is inspired from those days way back then. I did this one this morning before getting Mr D. off to school. It's a 8x11 done in pen and watercolor on paper.

ode to mom

issues

Why yes, yes, I am insane, thank you for asking. You probably know by now from my past post in Pinkmoon art that I sorta have a problem with lamps.
I did tell myself before I found this one that I would not buy any more lamps. Then I realized that I really didn't promise not to, I just made more of a suggestion. This one actually looks good in Mr. D's room. In defense I should mention that I passed up 2 other beautiful lamps before seeing this one.

I guess if I'm fessing up to the lamp above that I should fess up to this one as well. I kinda did post about this one, really. Hmmm, and then there's this pendant one, I'll tell you about that later.

influence

I talked about finding this book at a book sale at my Pinkmoon art blog. It's a pretty cool crafts book. I should show you more pictures from it. Anyways, it influenced me to do this....

...birds on top of each other. It's a pastel drawing measuring about 6x8. Happy Friday!

Hello Again

Hello again. Yes, I've moved. Some of you might know me as Pinkmoon art. My main purpose when I started blogging in the beginning of this year, was to open another creative avenue where I could share, meet and learn from all of you talented blogger out there. But somehow I found myself doing less arts and crafts and more family sharing. So, I thought that I'd clean up a bit, making a place for creativity and a place for family. Which is why I'm here. If you would like to know how our family is doing, you may find us at Mudder Houz. Thanks for visiting.
